EU Ambassador to Russia Markus Ederer resigns

German diplomat Markus Ederer has left the post of head of the EU diplomatic mission in Moscow, he will soon be replaced by the Frenchman Roland Galyarag, reports TASS with reference to a source in Brussels. It is noted that this decision is “planned”.

“The change of the head of the EU mission in Moscow is planned. Markus Ederer left Russia, and in the near future this post will be taken by the former French ambassador to Malaysia, Roland Galyarag. His appointment to this post was approved by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell in June,” the source said.

He recalled that “the EU adheres to the position on the need to keep open diplomatic channels of communication with Moscow,” despite the crisis in relations with Russia due to the special operation.

Earlier it became known that US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan completed my job. On September 4, the diplomat left Moscow. Until the appointment of Sullivan’s successor, Elizabeth Rude will serve as Acting Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Russia.

In April, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced 18 employees of the EU Delegation in Moscow are persona non grata. This decision was made in response to the actions of the European Union, which on April 5 declared 19 employees of the Russian permanent mission to the EU persona non grata.
