EU allocates €8.1 billion to support the semiconductor industry – Kommersant

European Commission approved allocation of €8.1 billion for scientific projects in the field of the semiconductor industry. 14 European countries take part in the project aimed at developing the industry and reducing the technological gap with the United States, South Korea and Taiwan: Austria, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Spain.
All of them will allocate funds for this project in the form of state grants. In addition, it is expected that private investors who are ready to spend €13.7 billion will also invest in the project. Thus, the total budget of the project will be about €22 billion, the European Commission notes.
The first innovative products created as part of the project may enter the market as early as 2025, and the project itself is designed until 2032.
