Ethiopia may increase coffee supplies to Russia if requested, informed RIA Novosti, Ethiopian Ambassador to Moscow Alemayehu Tegenu.
“If there is a request from Russia, we will be able to increase the volumes, no problem,” the ambassador said.
The increase in coffee prices against the background of problems with the harvest in Latin America and Asia could reach 30%, experts from the FoodNet working group of the National Technology Initiative (NTI) told the agency earlier.
“This has happened before, when somewhere the coffee harvest was less than expected, prices rose. Everything is fine with us, coffee production continues. Ethiopian producers are ready to supply coffee to any country,” Tegenu said.
In August, The Wall Street Journal wrotethat a poor harvest in Brazil could drive up the cost of a cup of the drink, with growers expecting only half of the Arabica bean harvest. Stocks of coffee in warehouses Intercontinental Exchange, according to Fitch Solutions, are at the lowest level in the last hundred years, the newspaper noted.
