Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan supported the idea of organizing humanitarian corridors for the wounded in connection with the situation in Ukraine. According to him, Turkey is ready to take over their treatment.
“Sheref Bey (Turkish Ombudsman) is talking about whether it is possible to open a corridor for the wounded (because of the situation in Ukraine). We support it,” Erdogan said (quote according to RIA Novosti).
He recalled that before that, Turkey delivered the wounded from Syria, Azerbaijan and Libya and treated them. According to Erdogan, this is Turkey’s “humanitarian duty”. He also stated that Ankara will continue to work in this direction.
The day before, January 10, the Turkish Ombudsman Sheref Malkoch informedthat he intends to discuss with the Russian and Ukrainian sides the issue of opening a humanitarian corridor between the Russian Federation and Ukraine to help children, women and the wounded affected by the conflict in Ukraine.
On January 11, a meeting of Ombudsmen of the Russian Federation and Ukraine Tatiana Moskalkova and Dmitry Lubinets was held in Ankara, they were also joined by their Turkish colleague Sheref Malkoch and Speaker of the Turkish Parliament Mustafa Shentop. Moskalkova toldthat during the talks the parties discussed the need for a ceasefire. Commenting on the results of the meeting, Sentop said that Turkey will continue to work on this issue, and will continue to provide assistance to the civilian population.
