The UN Security Council is ineffective, Turkey is convinced that international organizations are dysfunctional and blind, said the President of the Republic Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The head of state recalled that the UN General Assembly resolution calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip was supported by 121 countries. At the same time, the UN Security Council, he emphasized, cannot come to any conclusion.

“What does it mean for an international structure created to preserve peace to watch wars break out one after another? We have once again seen that international organizations are dysfunctional and blind when the deceased is a Muslim,” Erdogan told reporters (quote according to Milliyet).

In his opinion, any structure that does not change cannot exist in the new world order, so the UN needs to be updated. The system of permanent members and veto rights in the organization must be changed, the president is convinced.

“Could there be anything more absurd than five countries deciding who will survive in the world, who will die, who will be doomed to starvation, and who will live a rich and prosperous life?” Erdogan said.

On October 27, the Israeli military announced an expansion of the ground operation and called on residents of the northern Gaza Strip to move to the south. On the same day, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution put forward by Arab countries calling for an immediate truce in the conflict zone. It condemns violence against civilians on both sides, and also calls for the release of illegally held prisoners and compliance with humanitarian law – not to attack peaceful civilian targets.

Erdogan previously said that the adopted resolution showedhow alone Israel and its supporters are, and the Islamic world has taken a more united position.
