Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan does not support the provocative course of the West in Ukraine. He stated this at a press conference following the talks in Belgrade with his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vučić.
“Turkey, as it did before, adheres to a balanced policy towards Ukraine and Russia. At the same time, I do not support the provocative course of the West on Ukraine,” Erdogan said (quote according to TASS).
In addition, the Turkish leader noted that the West’s underestimation of Russia is wrong, it is not among the countries “which can not be taken seriously.” “I do not foresee an early end to the conflict in Ukraine. But for those who seriously underestimate Russia, I can say that they are wrong. Russia is not among those countries that can not be taken seriously,” he concluded.
Erdogan said earlier that Europe itself is to blame for the problems with the supply of Russian gas. “Europe is reaping what it has sown. Europe’s attitude towards the master [президенту России Владимиру] Putin and her sanctions [против России] inevitably led Mr. Putin to this situation. I think that Europe will spend this winter with serious problems. Turkey, at this stage, has no problems with gas supplies,” Erdogan said, responding to a request from journalists to assess the situation with the crisis in gas supplies to the EU from Russia.
