Erdogan confirms extension of grain deal for 120 days

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed the extension of the grain deal for another 120 days. About this Turkish leader wrote in your Telegram channel.

“In accordance with the decision taken by Turkey, the UN, the Russian Federation and Ukraine as a result of the four-party talks hosted by Turkey, the Black Sea Grain Corridor Agreement has been extended by 120 days from November 2022,” he wrote.

Erdogan noted that after delivering more than 11 million tons of grain and food aboard almost 500 ships, it became clear “how important and useful” this agreement is for the food supply and security of the world.

The Turkish leader also expressed gratitude to the UNPO, Secretary General of the organization António Guterres, as well as the presidents of Russia and Ukraine, Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky, who “showed the will to extend the agreement.”

Negotiations between the Russian side and UN representatives to extend the grain deal began in mid-October. To this end, UN Deputy Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths and head of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Rebeca Greenspan arrived in Moscow. Russia suspended participation in the grain deal on October 29 after the Ukrainian side attacked the ships of the Black Sea Fleet with drones in the roadstead in Sevastopol, using the humanitarian corridor intended for ships with grain for the attack.

November 2 Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported on the resumption of Russia’s participation in the Ukrainian grain deal. The ministry stressed that the Russian side received written guarantees from Ukraine not to use the grain corridor for combat operations against Russia.
