Erdogan and Biden discuss security cooperation

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and US President Joe Biden met on the sidelines of the NATO summit to discuss security cooperation between the countries. This was reported by the office of the Turkish leader, transmits “RIA News”.

“During the meeting, political, economic and trade relations between Turkey and the United States, opportunities for cooperation in the field of security and regional issues were discussed,” the report says.

At the meeting Erdogan declared about the beginning of a new stage in relations between the republic and the United States. The Turkish leader thanked Biden for congratulating him on his re-election and wished the incumbent US success in preparing for elections in 2024. Erdogan noted that he has five more years as president, to which Biden replied that he was “looking forward to” a joint work with the Turkish leader during this period.

On Erdogan and Biden’s plans to meet at the July 9 summit reported administration of the Turkish leader. On the eve of the summit, the presidents held telephone conversations during which they discussed issues on Sweden, Ukraine, and Turkey’s integration into the EU. On the evening of July 10, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg informedthat Türkiye agreed to Sweden’s accession to NATO.

Earlier today, Erdogan also met with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Politicians discussed the situation around the grain deal, Ankara’s promise to ratify the protocol on Sweden’s accession to NATO and issues in the field of defense, the fight against terrorism, illegal migration, etc.
