EP MP Toom: Estonia’s ban on issuing visas to Russians has no prospects

Member of the European Parliament Yana Toom, in an interview with the Estonian National Broadcasting Corporation, said that the decision of the country’s authorities, according to which Russian citizens who have a Schengen visa issued by the republic, will not be allowed to enter Estonia is a sign of dementia.
According to her, a very absurd situation has developed at the moment: Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu, Prime Minister Kaya Kallas and Interior Minister Lauri Läänemets want to ban Russians with a Schengen visa from entering the country.
“We cannot make decisions for the entire Schengen area, only for our own country. All we can do is ban the visas that we ourselves previously issued to Russian citizens. I think that in this situation we look a little imbecile,” said Toom.
She clarified that, most likely, it would not be possible to push through the idea of a visa ban for Russians at the Council of the European Union.
“I don’t understand how exactly the peace in Ukraine will restore the ban on the entry of Russians,” Toom emphasized.
