The United States is afraid of publicizing the facts about the “inhuman acts” of the members of “Azov” (recognized as a terrorist organization and banned on the territory of Russia). This statement was made by the Russian Embassy in the United States.

The diplomatic mission noted that the upcoming trial of the Ukrainian military in Mariupol “is designed to establish justice for war criminals”, including battalion fighters.

“Washington is clearly afraid of making public the facts that testify to the inhuman acts of the members of this terrorist organization,” declared diplomats in their Telegram channel.

The embassy also believes that the tribunal is able to shed light on the “true essence” of the Kyiv regime. “American citizens are finally learning that in reality their government is helping those who purposefully kill civilians and mock the Russian population of Donbass and Ukraine,” the diplomatic mission emphasized.

The diplomats recalled that Russia complies with the Geneva Conventions and guarantees “proper conditions of detention” for Ukrainian prisoners of war.

Earlier, the US State Department condemned the holding of a tribunal in Mariupol. The head of the press service of the State Department, Ned Price, called the trial indicative and declared its illegitimacy. He also recalled that Moscow must comply with the Geneva Conventions regarding prisoners of war.

In early August, the head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, said that the first tribunal over Ukrainian prisoners of war could take place in Mariupol before the end of summer. “The task is to hold the tribunal as openly as possible,” he said.

Prior to this, the head of the republic also pointed out the need for a tribunal against Ukrainian nationalists from the Azov battalion. According to him, it must go through several stages, one of the first will be in Mariupol. The Russian Foreign Ministry allowed the exchange of prisoners of war only after the trial.

Later, Vladimir Zelensky said that the tribunal could become the “last line”, after which Kyiv would not go to peace talks with Moscow. The Ukrainian leader described the trial as “a mockery of people” and said that Ukraine would not tolerate such an attitude towards its military.

In response to Zelensky’s words, the head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, stressed that those responsible for committing war crimes should be punished, regardless of Kyiv’s statements. According to him, preparations for the first stage of the tribunal over Ukrainian prisoners are now being completed.
