Businessman Elon Musk reacted with an exclamation mark to the increase in the US national debt to $33.04 trillion. He posted his comment on X (formerly Twitter).
This reaction from Musk was caused by the news about the growth of the US national debt by $1 trillion in three months.
On September 15, the US national debt for the first time in history exceeded $33 trillion. The previous time the US reached the national debt limit of $31.4 trillion was on January 19.
June 3 US President Joe Biden signed a law to raise the national debt ceiling, which will prevent a possible default and avoid a “catastrophic” blow to the economy, the White House noted. According to the document, the US Code’s cap clause is suspended until January 1, 2025, but at the end of the freeze period, effective January 2, 2025, the ceiling may be increased in accordance with current need.
June 17 US national debt moved the $32 trillion mark. This volume was achieved nine years earlier than expected. According to forecasts, by 2030 the US national debt could exceed $50 trillion.
