The head of the White House shares the secrets of family life

Joe Biden has said “good sex” is the key to a lasting marriage, a book about US first ladies claims. The president “toned down his public statements about the bedroom” before winning the last presidential election, writes author Katie Rogers.

President Joe Biden joked to aides that the key to a long marriage is “good sex,” according to a new book about the nation’s first ladies that sheds light on his 47-year romance with Jill Biden.

The book “American Woman – The Transformation of the Modern First Lady from Hillary Clinton to Jill Biden,” by New York Times White House correspondent Katie Rogers, comes out this week.

The part about sex takes up only a few paragraphs in the 276-page book, but has already caused headlines in the press, notes The Guardian.

Kathy Rogers writes that Biden declined to run for president in 2004, a decision that was communicated to aides when Jill Biden walked into the room wearing a halter top with the word “NO” scrawled across her stomach.

Joe Biden, now 81, told a group of supporters that year that he had little interest in running for president. “I’d rather be at home making love to my wife while my kids sleep,” he said.

The comment drew a shrug from the then-press secretary, who said then-Senator Biden was “frankly head over heels in love with his wife,” Rogers writes.

“Joe may have toned down his public statements about the bedroom after winning the presidential election, but he joked to aides that ‘good sex’ was the key to a strong, happy marriage, much to his wife’s chagrin,” notes Katie Rogers.

The book describes the suffering Joe Biden experienced when his first wife, Nilia, died in a 1972 car crash along with their daughter Naomi.

Joe Biden and Jill married in 1977, but it took five proposals from Biden to get Jill to agree to the marriage.

“I was as patient as I know I should be, but it drove me crazy. Either you decide to marry me, or that’s it – I’m leaving. I’m not asking anymore,” Biden said on the fifth try, according to Kathy Rogers.

Jill Biden, a community college English teacher, was the first American first lady to continue her professional career while in office.

In a previous interview, she said that when Joe Biden was vice president, the couple decided to settle their differences via text messages to avoid arguing in front of their Secret Service agents.
