The European Union received at least 38% of the grain that was exported from the blocked ports of Ukraine, informs Spanish newspaper El Pais.
It is specified that after a month from the beginning of the “grain deal” through the protected corridor, more than 2 million tons of grain came out of Ukraine. According to the publication, an average of five ships with agricultural products leave the three Black Sea ports daily. This deal was made to make room for a new crop and alleviate the food crisis in needy countries.
The day before, Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF), said that only 2 ships out of 87 were sent to countries in need, while the rest were sent to European countries. According to him, only 60,000 of the 2 million tons of agricultural products were delivered to the ports of developing countries. He accused the Western states of deceit and called the situation with the export of grain from the blocked ports of Ukraine “another impudent deception” and “swindle”.
According to the UN, three years ago, 135 million people experienced food shortages, but now their number has increased by 2.5 times to 345 million people, Putin said.
On July 22, representatives of Turkey and the UN signed separate agreements with representatives of Russia and Ukraine on the export of Ukrainian grain from the ports of Odessa, Chornomorsk and Yuzhny, as well as on assistance in the export of Russian grain and fertilizers. July 27 in Istanbul, the SKC began work on the export of grain. On August 1, the first vessel with grain left Ukraine. Within the framework of the agreement on grain, it is also expected to remove restrictions on the export of Russian food and fertilizers.
The ports of Ukraine have been blocked since the beginning of the special military operation. Ukrainian ships could not go to sea due to the large number of mines, and European countries and the UN blamed Russia for the impending food crisis. Moscow denied the accusation.
