Eighty-year-old Biden fell again: let down a sandbag

Separation from the people – and the fall! Elderly Joe Biden tripped and fell at his graduation ceremony at the Air Force Academy. “He’s all right,” the White House says in the spirit of “spit in the eyes – everything is God’s dew” after the 80-year-old US president lost his balance handing out diplomas at a ceremony in Colorado.

According to The Guardian, he was quickly helped to his feet, and he returned to his seat without assistance, and the White House said that the American president was “in order.”

Biden fell during an opening speech at an event at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado that lasted about five hours.

Biden, aged 80, stumbled and fell to the ground as he turned to his left to shake hands with an officer after his speech. He remained recumbent for several seconds before an air force officer and two Secret Service agents helped the old man to his feet.

Rising to his feet, Biden pointed to the spot on the stage where he had lost his balance. “He’s fine,” Ben LaBolt, White House communications director, tweeted. “When he shook hands, there was a sandbag on stage.”

Biden returned to his seat unaided after pointing at an object on stage.

Two small black sandbags stood on the stage, supporting the teleprompter used by Biden and other speakers, The Guardian writes in this regard.

Joe Biden announced in April that he would run for a second term in the 2024 presidential election despite some low approval ratings and some right-wing concerns and conspiracies about his age.

Biden, already the oldest American president in history, will turn 86 by the end of his second term (assuming he wins, and so on). That’s nearly a decade longer than Ronald Reagan left the White House in 1989. His main rival Donald Trump is now 76 years old.

The day after he announced his nomination, Biden said he was not bothered by the possibility of running for a second term, despite being the oldest president to ever do so.

“As for age… I can guess how old I am. I can’t even name a number. It doesn’t fit in my head,” Biden said at a joint press conference with South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, who is visiting the White House.

Recall that at one time Biden stumbled before climbing the ladder and getting on the presidential board of Air Force One. And once he got tangled in the pedals of his bike when he stopped to talk to reporters outside his home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

Biden’s personal physician said after the president’s last physical examination in February that Biden “remains a healthy, energetic 80-year-old man who is capable of successfully carrying out the duties of the president.” Dr. Kevin O’Connor also documented the president’s stiff gait, which O’Connor said was the result of spinal arthritis, a previously broken foot, and neuropathy in Biden’s legs.

During Thursday’s event, Biden thanked the alumni for choosing “service to self” and added that they now have the “great privilege” to lead in a world that will only become more confusing.

The President told more than 900 graduates that they will need the resilience, creativity, resilience and determination they learned at the academy to tackle a range of global challenges.
