Egypt denies information about refusal of Russian wheat

Information about Egypt’s refusal to purchase Russian wheat is not true. This was reported by RT Arabic TV channel with reference to First Assistant to the Minister of Supply Ibrahim Ashmawy.
Bloomberg previously reported Egypt’s intention to purchase half a million tons of wheat from Bulgaria and France. The agency claimed that the need for a new deal arose after Russia allegedly blocked wheat supplies to Egypt due to a lack of agreement on price.
Ibrahim Ashmawy said that trade relations between Moscow and Cairo are developing dynamically. He previously noted that Egypt is one of the largest importers of wheat in the world. At the same time, Russian wheat accounts for about 80% of the import structure.
In early September, information appeared about Egypt purchasing half a million tons of Russian wheat privately, without a tender. Egypt’s Ministry of Supply later explained the move as an attempt to increase wheat supplies by diversifying import sources.
