Affected Russians will need a Mir card
From October 26, 2022, the range of benefits and payments made exclusively to cards of the domestic payment system Mir will expand in Russia. That is why Associate Professor of the Department of Finance for Sustainable Development of the Russian University of Economics. G.V. Plekhanova Maria Ermilova recommended five categories of Russians to transfer accruals to this card so as not to lose the right to support from the state.
In conversation with Prime agency Yermilova recalled that from October 26, five payments approved by the Cabinet of Ministers will be credited to Mir cards, namely state social assistance, subsidies for paying for housing and utilities, compensation for expenses for paying for housing and utilities, as well as annual cash payments to persons awarded the badge of the “Honorary Donor of Russia”.
As the expert noted, earlier a number of payments had already been transferred to the cards of the Russian payment system, including salaries, bonuses and remuneration of civil servants, state scholarships and pensions, unemployment benefits, child benefits and others.
According to Yermilova, Mir is the main payment system, so such payments are transferred through the cards of this system. Nevertheless, she clarified that it is possible to receive them without reference to the card. The economist explained that a citizen can open an account to which no card is linked, for example, a savings account, and any payments can be credited to this account. Ermilova concluded that in this case the Mir card would not be required.
