Economist: Putin is winning in Ukraine so far

Economist: Russia will be in an advantageous position in Ukraine in 2024
The Economist notes in its material that Russian President Vladimir Putin now looks like the winner in the Ukrainian conflict. The article calls the Russian leader’s main achievement the fact that he undermined the West’s belief that Ukraine could emerge from the conflict as a “prosperous European democracy.”
The author of the article believes that Russia’s victory in this conflict is due to the fact that it depends on endurance. And if the Ukrainian army retreats from Avdiivka, then both in Kyiv and in the West voices will sound louder about the need for negotiations and the pointlessness of assistance.
“At least in 2024, Russia will be in a stronger position,” the publication writes, explaining that the Russian army will have more drones, artillery shells, and electronic warfare systems.
At the same time, a gloomy mood reigns in Kiev, the struggle between elite groups for influence has resumed, a rift has emerged between Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny, and corruption scandals and fears about the future of the country have undermined the government’s reputation among Ukrainians.
