Ecology, feminism, philosophy… the start of the new school year sheds light on a changing world

Ritual almost unchanged for several decades, the return to the essays, like the literary return, is a fixed point in a world in perpetual change. It allows, by contrast, to measure the intensity of the upheavals in progress, as well as our ability to think about them. Autumn 2022 is particularly promising in this respect. Six months after the start of the Russian aggression against Ukraine, the books analyzing the underpinnings of the war will thus accumulate from September to November.
Among other things, two complementary books will be published next week, Russians and Ukrainians. Unequal brothers, from the Middle Ages to the present dayby Andreas Kentendre (CNRS Editions), and Never brothers? Ukraine and Russia: a post-Soviet tragedy, by Anna Colin Lebedev (Threshold). A little later, Anne de Tinguy will publish The Entangled Giant. Russia and the world from the end of the USSR to the invasion of Ukraine (Perrin), and the psychologist Hélène Romano a book inspired by her work with Ukrainian schools, Children and war (Odile Jacob). At the end of September, the Albin Michel editions will republish the Testimonies on the famine in Ukraine brought together by Georges Sokoloff in 2000. Finally translated, the reference book by Ukrainian historian Serhii Plokhy, At the gates of Europe. History of Ukrainepublished in the United States in 2015, will be released in November by Gallimard.
But, beyond the major crises, most of the subjects that agitate the contemporary debate will again find themselves on the tables of booksellers. Feminism and ecology
This too is almost immutable: emerge, in this flood of concerns, controversies and new perspectives, two dominant ones, stemming from two of the most dynamic sectors of research in the human sciences, feminism and ecology. Impossible to quote here all the announced titles. A few clues though.
On the one hand, Feminicides.
