EC: EU gas storage facilities are 89.89% full

EU gas storage facilities are now 89.89% full, informed TASS with reference to the representative of the European Commission Stefan de Kersmaeker.
The representative of the EC called the current level of occupancy an excellent result, but stressed that an abnormally warm winter played a significant role in this.
August 10 INES group of gas storage operators statedthat Germany will live with the risk of a severe gas shortage until early 2027 if it does not build additional fuel infrastructure. However, if the coming winter is cold, storage may be depleted by the end of January 2024. Additional liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals, as well as gas storage capacity and pipeline equipment, are needed to ensure supplies.
On June 12, German Economy Minister Robert Habek said that if Russia and Ukraine do not extend the gas transit agreement after 2024, Germany will probably have to reduce or even turn off industrial capacity. Habek also noted that the country needs additional capacity, including a planned LNG terminal on the northern coast, which will allow it to support supplies to both East Germany and Eastern Europe.
