Dutch prosecution will not request extradition of MH17 convicts

The Dutch prosecutor’s office will not request the extradition of Igor Girkin, Sergei Dubinsky and Leonid Kharchenko, convicted in the case of the MH17 Boeing crash in Ukraine, follows from a statement from the department.
“The Russian Federation does not extradite citizens, so the extradition of convicts will not be requested. However, work will continue to ensure that convicts serve their sentences. The prosecutor’s office believes that no convict should escape punishment, ”the statement says (quote according to TASS).
Also, the Dutch prosecutor’s office does not intend to appeal the court’s decision in this case and considers the verdict final.
On November 17, a court in The Hague found that flight MH17 had been shot down by a Buk anti-aircraft missile system from a field near Pervomaisky. At the same time, it was noted that it was impossible to determine who gave the command to launch a missile at an aircraft due to a number of gaps in the investigation.
Igor Girkin (Strelkov), Sergei Dubinsky (Khmury) and Leonid Kharchenko (Krot) were found guilty of the Boeing 777 crash. They were sentenced to life imprisonment, and the convicts must also pay the relatives of the victims at least 16 million euros in compensation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation called this court decision “politically motivated.” According to diplomats, the proceedings were based on a “political order”. Boeing 777 of Malaysian Airlines, following flight MH17 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, crashed on July 17, 2014 in the Donetsk region. There were 298 people on board, all of them died.
