The conflict in Ukraine will sooner or later end at the negotiating table, said Polish President Andrzej Duda on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.
“Sooner or later, the parties will one way or another incline to sit down at the negotiating table, but it is difficult to say exactly what the conditions will be. One thing is clear – today these conditions do not exist, ”Duda noted (quote according to TASS).
He also agreed with a similar opinion of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and added that “most likely this is the order of things – this is how wars usually end.”
Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov earlier today advised the Ukrainian side “to take into account the demands of Russia, which will be achieved one way or another,” speaking about the prospects for negotiations. Thus, he commented on the words of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who said that he did not know with whom he should negotiate, because he was not sure that the Russian president was alive.
Since the beginning of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, the parties have held negotiations several times in February and March 2022. The first three face-to-face meetings took place in Belarus in February-March, and the fourth round of the Russian-Ukrainian dialogue was held on March 29 in Istanbul. After that, the process was frozen, since Kyiv withdrew from it.
Moscow has repeatedly stated that it is open to negotiations. On the eve of January 18, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev declaredthat in order to resume this process, consent is required on two legal aspects: recognition of the results of referendums in the new four regions of the Russian Federation and the development of special international norms.
