In Russia, a new heavy flamethrower system TOS-3 is being created under the formidable name “Dragon”. Military weapons with thermobaric shells will continue the line of flamethrower systems TOS-1 “Buratino”, TOS-1A “Solntsepek” and TOS-2 “Tosochka”. Experts made this conclusion based on the fact that the manufacturer of the formidable weapon, Omsktransmash, registered the TOS-3 trademark.

The characteristics of the “Dragon” are not disclosed. It is only known that TOS-3 will have a tracked chassis, like the Solntsepeks. In addition, it will inherit the modular loading mechanism from Tosochka.

However, experts are confident that the designers will not limit themselves to this and the lethality of the “Dragon” will be higher than that of the “Solntsepek” developed in the 90s or the “Tosochka” created in 2020. Both of these formidable systems are in great demand in the Northern Defense zone and terrify the enemy. The fact is that it is impossible to survive in the zone of a group explosion of thermobaric shells; even bunkers will not save you.

Military expert Colonel in the reserve Eduard Basurin spoke on his channel about how the appearance of our TOS-2 flamethrower systems at the front affects the morale of the enemy. According to him, the principle of operation of this system “everyone already knows very well and does not want to fall under its salvo.”

Created in the 80s, the founder of the TOS-1 “Buratino” family, according to the expert, was once sent to Afghanistan, demonstrated a stunning effect there and received the title of the most powerful weapon after tactical nuclear.

The latest known version of the TOS-2 Tosochka, model 2020, uses 220 mm unguided rockets. The number of launcher guides was reduced from 24 to 18. The salvo time was 10 seconds. At the same time, the power and range of the projectiles became higher. Rockets weighing from 173 to 217 kg are used. Range – up to 6 kilometers.

In the future, the expert noted, it is possible to increase the range to 24 kilometers. It is possible that the new TOS-3 will be able to hit targets at such a range.

How the characteristics of flamethrower systems change can be seen in the examples of “Solntsepek” and “Tosochka”. If TOS-1A could weed an area of ​​4 hectares, then TOS-2 destroys everything on an area of ​​6 hectares. Presumably, TOS-3 will have even higher characteristics.

It remains to add that nothing like this has been created in the West.
