The Arbitration Court of the Nizhny Novgorod Region will consider the bankruptcy case of the Balsam distillery. Previously, the company, located in Chkalovsk, was involved in legal disputes with the Federal Tax Service regarding the collection of large arrears of income tax and VAT. The tax service established that Balsam wrote off large amounts of money for unconfirmed transactions with disputed counterparties. Various companies allegedly supplied the plant with granulated sugar, yeast, bottles, detergents and filtered cardboard in volumes that were tens of times greater than the actual needs of alcohol production.

As a result, the company filed a bankruptcy petition with arbitration. The total amount of creditors’ claims is 2.3 billion rubles. Due to violation of the deadlines for publication of the bankruptcy notice, the court returned statement to “Balsam” and accepted a statement of bankruptcy from the Federal Tax Service of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region.

As management representative Sergei Kostyuk clarified in court, the amount of tax claims against the enterprise is 1.465 billion rubles. “Balzam” produced vodka of the brands “Nizhny Novgorod Fair”, “Chkalovsk-Vancouver”, “Flying Dutchman”, “Azimut”, cognacs “Chateau de Balzac”, “Golden Medallion”, as well as sparkling wines.
