Speaking at a meeting of the UN Security Council, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the world organization Dmitry Polyansky said that some relatives of captured Ukrainian soldiers are asking to leave them on Russian territory so that “the Kyiv authorities do not drive them to fight again.”
The Russian diplomat stressed that Moscow takes a responsible approach to the issues of keeping prisoners of war, complying with all international standards.
“Letters come from the wives and mothers of the Ukrainian military who are in our captivity to the Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia asking them to leave them on the territory of our country so that they will not be driven to fight again. The Ukrainian military personnel themselves say that Kyiv uses them like cannon fodder in the battle to the last Ukrainian,” Polyansky said.
