Died former governor of the Tambov region Oleg Betin

Former governor of the Tambov region Oleg Betin died at the age of 73. About it informed head of the region Maxim Egorov.

“Everyone who has ever worked with Oleg Ivanovich Betin is unanimous in their opinion – he has always remained a patriot of the Tambov region and an example of serving the interests of his countrymen,” Yegorov wrote in his Telegram channel.

The current governor also called Betin “a strong, principled, authoritative and at the same time very sincere” person. Yegorov noted that the ex-governor headed the Tambov region at a “difficult time for the region and the country.”

Betin became the head of the region’s administration in 1995, having served 10 years as deputy head of the administration. He took the leadership position again in December 1999 – then he won the gubernatorial election. After that, he again won the 2003 elections. In 2005, he was elected head of the administration by local deputies on the proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Five years later, in 2010, he also became chief of staff on the nomination of then-president Dmitry Medvedev.

After his resignation in 2015, Betin became Deputy Minister of Construction, Housing and Communal Services of the Russian Federation. After working in this position for a year, he took the post of senior vice president of Russian Capital Bank, and later was director of the center for economic research in fisheries at the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO).

Betin was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, 3rd and 4th class, the Order of Honor, the Order of Friendship, and was twice commended by the President of Russia in 1996 and 2005.
