British actor Leon Vitali, best known for his work with director Stanley Kubrick, has died at the age of 74. He was the director’s personal assistant and was considered one of the people closest to him.
“It is with the greatest sadness that we must inform you that Leon Vitali, the hero of so many of Kubrick’s films, passed away peacefully last night,” according to the Twitter account of an organization dedicated to promoting the creative legacy of Stanley Kubrick.
As an actor, Mr. Vitali is best known for his role as Lord Ballington in the film Barry Lyndon. He also starred in the films Eyes Wide Shut and Victor Frankenstein and contributed to a number of Mr. Kubrick’s films, including The Shining and Full Metal Jacket. Leon Vitali’s daughter, Vera Vitali, also acts in films, best known for her roles in Britt-Marie Was Here, Underworld and Blind.
