Die Welt: Poland is trying to convince NATO of the need for a radical weakening of Russia

Poland seeks to convince NATO partners, including Germany and France, of the need to radically weaken Russia. This is reported by the newspaper Die Welt, citing sources in the Polish Foreign Ministry.
“We do not seek the destruction of the Russian state, but the weakening of Russia, which will deprive the country of the ability to act, with the aim of achieving peace in Europe for at least a few decades,” a Foreign Ministry official told the publication on condition of anonymity.
He added that Warsaw sees the goal as “containment of Russia once and for all.” It is impossible to go for a “cheap compromise”, a truce on Moscow’s terms will only lead to a pause in hostilities. The pause will end as soon as Russia gathers forces, and this is “not in our interests,” the diplomat concluded.
