The details of the process of repurchasing foreign assets are being discussed, but the final decision on this procedure has not yet been made, explained Elvira Nabiullina, Chairman of the Bank of Russia.
Formerly newspaper Financial Times (FT), citing sources, announced the preparation of a document that will allow the state to buy Western assets on a priority basis for subsequent sale at a significant discount. This will allow buying assets at a price below the market price with the post-sale of such assets at a profit, follows from the FT material.
According to Ms. Nabiullina, the details and terms of such transactions are still being discussed.
At the same time, according to the head of the Central Bank, public companies should not be closed as a result of such transactions.
“If the shares of a public company are bought out, then it must remain public, it must not be closed… if it is a non-public company, then it is necessary to consider the question of expediency – this may not always be expedient – bringing some share to the market, what share, in what proportions, “It’s just being discussed,” she explained.
In total, according to the Central Bank, from March 2022 to March 2023, about 200 transactions were carried out for the exit of foreign investors from Russian assets.
