Ukraine discussed plans to destroy the Crimean bridge with British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace back in June at a NATO summit. This statement was made by the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksiy Goncharenko, transmits “RIA News”.
“Ben Wallace and I discussed the plan to destroy the Crimean Bridge back in June,” he wrote. The MP also published a photograph of the negotiations, which, in addition to him and the British Minister of Defense, shows British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Thus, Goncharenko commented on the statement of expert Igor Korotchenko, who said on the air of the Rossiya 1 TV channel that, according to some reports, the plan for striking the bridge was being developed under the personal supervision of the head of the British military department.
The Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly threatened to strike at the Crimean bridge before. So, in mid-July, Aleksey Arestovich, adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, said that the Ukrainian military were going to attack the infrastructure facility “as soon as the first technical possibility appears.” In June, Major General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Dmytro Marchenko also said that the Crimean Bridge was “target number one.”
The Kremlin also noted that Crimea is safe under the protection of the Russian military. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov added that it is guaranteed by “preventive and additional measures” taken by the military.
