The Duma has received a proposal for mandatory labeling of energy drinks

State Duma deputies decided to oblige energy drink manufacturers to place bright health labels on their cans. A bill on this was prepared by an inter-factional group of deputies led by Yaroslav Nilov from the LDPR. In his initiative, the politician refers to research by experts who claim that excessive consumption of energy drinks has a detrimental effect on health. The parliamentarian himself explained to MK the meaning of the bill.

“Thank God, several years ago we managed to ban the production and sale of low-alcohol energy drinks, now we have come to the point of sorting out the availability of other energy drinks for teenagers,” Yaroslav Nilov, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs, comments to MK. – I want to emphasize that it is not only not recommended to consume energy drinks, it is dangerous for their health. Recently there was news that a teenager drank several cans in a row and died. Another drank alcohol with an energy drink and ended up in drug treatment. There are many cases of the development of various diseases due to the systematic use of such drinks. Therefore, we propose to inform all consumers about this danger on the label. This inscription must be visible clearly and clearly that drinking this is not recommended. Yes, these drinks give energy to students who prepare for exams at night, and drivers, but they must understand at what cost – due to damage to their health.

By the way, one of the State Duma deputies, who is experiencing health problems, was repeatedly noticed by journalists with a can of energy drink during State Duma meetings. Despite this, the famous erudite calls “the abundance of energy drinks based on caffeine and vitamins as a blessing.” Deputy Anatoly Wasserman explained his passion for energy drinks by saying that they help him get through early State Duma meetings.

“With the abundance of such drinks, as a rule, if I feel that it is difficult for me to withstand an earlier meeting, I drink a can of such a drink,” Wasserman told MK. – This is a rather bad habit, but it causes much less harm to health than smoking, so I haven’t given it up yet.

If Nilov’s initiative is accepted, energy drinks will be labeled with a warning: “Excessive consumption of tonic (energy) drinks is harmful to your health. Dangerous when combined with alcohol. It is strictly not recommended for use by persons under the age of 18, pregnant and lactating women, persons suffering from increased nervous excitability, insomnia, and arterial hypertension.”

If the law is passed, it will come into force on January 1, 2024.
