State Duma deputy from United Russia Svetlana Bessarab proposed to reduce the working week in Russia from 40 to 36 hours. According to the parliamentarian, she is going to submit the relevant bill to the State Duma after the completion of the military operation in Ukraine.
“For all workers, it is necessary to reduce the working week from 40 hours to 36 hours. Many countries of the world are following this path, and Russia should be progressive in this direction, many people burn out working in the 40-hour week,” the deputy said in an interview with “Lentoy.ru”.
The parliamentarian believes that it is possible to achieve a 36-hour week by reducing the working day on Friday or a general reduction in working hours per day. Ms. Bessarab noted that earlier Russian trade unions supported the idea to reduce the working week, but only on the condition that the salaries of specialists remain the same.
According to the recruiting portal SuperJob, by October 2022, 1% of Russian companies switched to a reduced working week. Another 2% of organizations returned to their normal schedule after the experiment.
