State Duma deputies are thinking about the festive table of their constituents. The “New People” faction is looking for products and goods, the prices of which are rising at an inadequate pace for the new year. For this purpose, they turned to the head of the Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation, Sergei Galkin.

“I sent a request to Rosstat with a request to prepare a “New Year’s table index,” Vladislav Davankov, vice speaker of the State Duma from the New People party, told MK. – We have set a goal to identify all New Year’s products and goods for which prices are rising at an inadequate rate. If the statistics arrive before December 10, we will work with the Government to reduce VAT on all goods where the price increase is felt by people to be critical.

Every year, Rosstat provides information on changes in the cost of food needed to prepare New Year’s salads – the so-called “Olivier index”. This statistics is indicative, since Olivier salad is the most popular dish on the New Year’s table among Russian citizens. Deputies point out that there is a significant discrepancy between the information published by experts and Rosstat regarding the rise in prices for food products, including New Year’s salads.

In this regard, Deputy Davankov asks the head of Rosstat to adjust the methodology for assessing the “Olivier index” published by his department. And also calculate the dynamics of prices for basic products for the New Year’s table, compile a “New Year’s table index” and present it on the Rosstat website annually on December 1, similar to the “Olivier index”.

The “New Year’s Table Index” may include Olivier salad, tangerines and other products that are most often found among Russian citizens at the New Year’s feast, according to VTsIOM data. Thus, federal and regional authorities will have until December 10 to develop a set of measures that will make popular New Year’s products more accessible.
