The Danish Ministry of Defense announced the allocation of the largest military aid package to Ukraine, worth 5.8 billion kroner ($833 million), reported on the department’s website.
The package will be allocated in stages. Most ($620 million) will be transferred this year, about $200 million next year, and another $7.5 million in 2025.
The country’s Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said that Denmark has exhausted its military reserves in a year and a half, so Copenhagen is considering “more targeted joint procurement and international cooperation that are tailored to the needs of Ukraine here and now.”
This twelfth package will include tanks and their shells, infantry fighting vehicles, anti-aircraft systems, etc.
Earlier in August, the Danish Ministry of Defense confirmed readiness to transfer American-made F-16 fighters to Ukraine. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Kyiv will be able to take advantage of “new opportunities” after completing pilot training.
The next day, Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexey Reznikov said that Ukrainian pilots and technicians had already begun training on American fighters. At the same time, he confirmed that the training period for pilots is at least six months, calling “not to be upset” if in reality it turns out to be longer.
Moscow has repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to Kyiv and pointed to the growing direct and indirect involvement of Western countries in the conflict in Ukraine. The authorities pointed to an attempt by the West to prolong the conflict by supplying arms to Ukraine.
