Denmark allowed the introduction of restrictions on the issuance of visas to Russians

The Danish government is studying the possibility of reducing the number of tourist visas issued to Russian citizens, the newspaper Politiken reported. Minister for Integration Kore Dubwad declaredthat under the auspices of the European Union it is necessary to find a pan-European solution.

“What Estonia has proposed is reasonable. Create a pan-European response. It is clear that if there is only one country in Europe where Russians can enter, then, in principle, you can enter the entire Schengen zone. That is why it needs to be done within the EU,” said he (TASS quote).

According to Dyubvad, this year many more Russian tourists came to Denmark than in the past, and this fact surprised the minister, the newspaper notes. So, in the first five months of 2022, Russian citizens were issued almost three times more tourist visas than in the whole of 2021, follows from the data sent by the Danish immigration service to Politiken. This year, 141 Russians received visas, an increase due to the temporary closure of the country during the coronavirus pandemic.

On August 10, the official representative of the German government, Steffen Hebestreit, during a briefing, said that the EU began discussing the initiative of a number of countries of the union to ban the issuance of visas to Russian citizens. The next day, the Estonian authorities were the first in the EU to decide to ban Russians with Schengen visas, which were issued by the republic, from entering the country.
