According to the results of the first half of 2023, the demand for black caviar increased in Moscow and the Moscow region – the number of purchases increased by 11%, follows from an analysis of the Check Index resource, which cites RBC. However, in Russia as a whole, sales of black caviar in January-June of this year decreased by 5% compared to the same period in 2022.
In the first six months of this year, Moscow residents spent 19% more on black caviar than in 2022. At the same time, the average bill for buying black caviar increased in the capital and the Moscow region. It amounted to 8.2 thousand rubles, or 8% more than a year earlier.
However, in Russia as a whole, the number of black caviar purchases in January-June was 5% lower than in 2022. Sales in monetary terms increased by 2%. The average check for one purchase in the regions increased by 7%. Residents of the regions spent an average of 2.4 thousand rubles on the purchase of sturgeon caviar.
Analysts at Chek Index note that the continued interest of Russians in black caviar is evidenced by the growing sales of its substitutes made from algae, fish oil and gelatin. According to the Check Index, in the first six months of 2023, the number of purchases of caviar substitutes in Russia as a whole increased by 8%, in Moscow and the Moscow region – 14%. The average check for buying imitated sturgeon caviar was 320 rubles. in Russia (+10% to the price of the previous year) and 352 rubles. in the Moscow region (+11%).
By August 2023, prices for fish products reached their highest levels in recent years. At the same time, experts predict that caviar may soon fall in price by a third due to the record salmon catch in the Far East. By mid-August, the fishermen managed to catch 500 tons of fish, actually fulfilling the catch plan.
