Kazakhstan seeks alternatives to export oil pipeline bypassing Russia – Kommersant

Kazakhstan is actively acquiring tankers to transport its oil through the Caspian and Black Seas, the agency reports. Bloomberg. The information was confirmed to journalists by the Kazakh oil and gas company KazMunayGas.
The agency sees the massive acquisition of tankers as a sign that the country, Central Asia’s largest oil producer, is seeking an alternative to its main export pipeline through Russia.
A subdivision of KazMunayGas has already purchased two tankers with a deadweight of 8,000 tons each to transport oil through the Caspian Sea, Deputy Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Yerlan Akkenzhenov said. According to him, two more vessels with a deadweight of 80 thousand tons each are planned to be purchased for work in the Black Sea.
“The authorities of Kazakhstan and the leadership of the country’s largest state-owned companies are studying alternative options for oil delivery routes. It does this despite the fact that the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, passing through Russia, remains the most profitable route for exporting oil from the country, ”experts interviewed by Bloomberg believe.
On August 18, it became known that Kazakhstan could refuse from Black Sea oil exports due to attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Novorossiysk. KazTransOil is expected to redirect its oil volumes to the Baltic port of Ust-Luga (Leningrad region) from the Black Sea ports “due to military risks in the region.”
