Fraudsters began to lie about expired SIM cards to get access codes

The scammers came up with a new legend to get access codes to the personal accounts of subscribers of telecom operators. They talk about the fact that the SIM card will soon expire and ask to dictate the sent code. The Mousetrap platform told about the new legend, the Central Bank is aware of such a fraud scheme.
Mousetrap curator Alla Khrapunova told “Izvestia”that the attackers, after receiving the access code to the subscriber’s personal account, forward calls and SMS to another number or a virtual duplicate of the SIM card. This allows you to enter your personal account on the website of a credit organization, since messages with access codes are sent to intruders.
The Mousetrap was contacted by citizens who reported that fraudsters had gained access to personal accounts in bank applications, but the project does not exclude that attempts were made in this way to bypass the authorization of the public services portal or social networks. The Mousetrap notes that the plausibility of the legend is due to the fact that Roskomnadzor recently reported the identification of 9 million SIM cards with outdated personal data that could be blocked.
The Central Bank believes that this fraud scheme can be combated by adopting a law on the possibility of checking subscriber information by financial organizations using the databases of telecom operators. Now this scheme is used by some banks, the adoption of the law will expand the practice to all credit organizations.
