Tomorrow, December 30, the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics must adopt new versions of their constitutions. This is reported by the publication “Kommersant”.
The updated constitutions will stipulate that the heads of the republics will be elected by the deputies of the legislature. Previously, the heads of the DPR and LPR were elected by popular vote.
Now in the Russian Federation, the heads of all the republics of the North Caucasus, with the exception of the Chechen Republic, the head of the Crimea, the heads of the Nenets and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrugs are elected by vote of deputies. Now the same system will operate in the DPR and LPR.
