The Armed Forces of Ukraine are preparing a new attack on the Sevastopol Bay with the massive use of naval drones. Similar assumptions were published by a number of experts, referring to photos of drones standing in a row that appeared on the Web. In addition, the other day, President Zelensky called on his compatriots to build a crewless fleet. According to the captain of the 1st rank in the reserve military expert Vasily Dandykin, the sailors of the Black Sea Fleet already have experience in combating naval drones and are ready to repel possible enemy attacks.

Indirect confirmation of Kyiv’s preparations for new attacks on the Black Sea Fleet is the fact that back in early November, a group of specialists from the US Naval Information Operations Training Command unofficially arrived in Kyiv. The main directions of such training centers are the training of specialists in information and psychological operations, electronic intelligence, mechanical engineers of high-tech equipment, as well as signalmen and cryptographers of closed communication systems.

Among the staff and instructors of the command there are former military personnel of the 1st division of unmanned underwater vehicles as part of the 5th experimental submarine squadron of the US Navy. It is the specialists of such structures that carry out primary research, development, design and testing of submarines and autonomous vehicles in the interests of the US Navy. Most likely, the Americans arrived to train the Armed Forces in the use, maintenance and tactics of using marine unmanned vehicles, the blogger believes.

Captain 1st rank in reserve Vasily Dandykin:

– This is another “wunderwaffe” – a super-weapon, as Javelins were at one time, then Himars, and now underwater-surface drones. Similar marine drones have already appeared in the summer off the coast of Sevastopol. At the end of October there was a combined attack by air and sea devices. The Russian armed forces then destroyed six naval drones. I think that now we are talking about the same unmanned boats, but this time their number will be greater. It’s hard to say exactly how many, perhaps ten or fifteen.

– Where can they come from?

– Most likely, after the scandal with the grain corridor, where part of the route of marine drones passed, now it may be the Ochakov area. It is still problematic for such ships to overcome long distances. It should be taken into account that in the autumn-winter period the Black Sea is usually very stormy. And these small boats are unlikely to have high seaworthiness. Although, on the other hand, they are completely “protected”, and the waves are not so terrible for them.

– How to deal with maritime drones?

– We must fight both from the air and from the water. The guns installed on our ships can shoot down enemy drones. There is no problem here. Unmanned ships do not have the ability to move at high speeds, they are visible on the surface, as they go in a semi-submerged state. Electronic warfare equipment also works effectively against drones. I think this attack will be doomed to failure. Our sailors of the Black Sea Fleet gained experience in destroying such devices, studied their tactical and technical characteristics. In addition, the protection of the main base of the Black Sea Fleet has been strengthened, and continuous monitoring is being carried out from the posts. In my opinion, our sailors are ready to repel attacks.
