Daily Mail: the British wanted to take away the houses of Ukrainian refugees for Christmas

The British, who had previously agreed to host Ukrainian refugees, were desperately trying to regain the right to celebrate Christmas and New Year in their homes without guests. This was reported by the journalists of the Daily Mail.
They talked to psychologists who help UK residents hosting migrants. According to doctors, many of them are under severe stress. But at the same time, they often blame themselves for being callous because of the feeling of irritation towards refugees. Kate Daniels of the Family Therapy Association spoke about a woman who felt like a stranger in her own home. Arriving at the kitchen, she realized that she was surrounded by strangers, after which she went to her room. Then she tried to understand why she did not find a place for herself in her own home.
The rising cost of living also adds to the headache for the British. According to the publication, in some cases, people no longer want to host other people’s families, because they themselves barely make ends meet from rising prices.
In March, the UK began to implement the program “Houses for Ukraine”. Individuals or organizations who agreed to take part in it could provide temporary and free housing to refugees for compensation.
But in recent weeks, more Ukrainians have taken to the streets. According to experts’ forecasts, which were voiced by The Guardian newspaper, about 50,000 refugees from Ukraine could become homeless in the UK next year.
