The Czech government has added Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ to the national list of sanctions. About it reported Ceske noviny edition.
“For the patriarch, this means, for example, a ban on entry into the Czech Republic or the freezing of any property in the republic,” the report says. It is also noted that the patriarch was included in the list because of the support of the military operation in Ukraine.
In July 2022, Canada also added Patriarch Kirill to its sanctions list. Then the ex-head of Yandex Tigran Khudaverdyan, the head of Roskomnadzor Andrey Lipov and his deputies Vadim Subbotin, Vladimir Logunov, Oleg Terlyakov and Milos Wagner, the Minister of Digital Development Maksut Shadayev and others were also subject to restrictions.
The first country to impose sanctions against the head of the Russian Orthodox Church was Great Britain. On June 16 last year, after the restrictions were introduced, the British Foreign Office explained that they were imposed due to “active support” for the special operation.
