On December 15, in Moscow, the Housing Development Institute DOM.RF held a round table “Trends in building a career in the construction industry”

Experts from DOM.RF, the Moscow State Construction University and the online recruiting platform HH.ru discussed the main trends in the personnel potential of construction workers in Russia, how to increase the prestige of the industry and attract young people to it.

Reassessment of employee age categories

HH.ru youth expert Timur Usmanov published current research data on the Russian labor market in the construction sector. According to the materials, today there is a shortage of employees in this area, as well as throughout the country. The construction industry ranks 8th in the top 10 categories where young professionals are in demand. At the same time, the greatest competition is observed among design engineers, and the least among installers.

Another trend was a decrease in the number of invitations to work for employees in the age categories 19-30 and 31-40 years old. Companies are increasingly choosing to attract older and more experienced staff for a number of reasons, including demographics. The Volga Federal District currently offers the most vacancies in the construction sector, and the largest resume of specialists is recorded in Moscow.

The main secrets of attracting specialists to the construction industry

Director for Personnel and Operational Efficiency of DOM.RF Zakhar Malakhov named the rules for attracting talented youth to the company, which actively monitors trends in the development of the labor market in Russia and assesses the personnel shortage in the industry.

To combat this problem, experts use an integrated approach in interaction with schoolchildren and students in Russia. It includes career festivals, as well as internship programs in different regions of the country, which motivate future specialists to make an informed choice of employer at the training stage.

When asked by a MK journalist about the awareness of the company’s expansion strategy in the regions, Zakhar Malakhov answered in the affirmative. The speaker is convinced that the development of regional policy will have a positive effect on the construction industry in the country.

Partnership agreements with 60 universities in 15 cities of Russia allow us to attract valuable personnel. In 2023 alone, thanks to fruitful work with young people, more than 500 students took part in the DOM.RF internship programs, over 300 of whom were employed.

“We want to make a big story with exchanges and internships in China. This year there was already a trial step, when part of one of our programs and an internship in it was in China. We are thinking of developing international stories in the IT segment,” Zakhar Malakhov spoke about his plans for the future.

Opportunities for young professionals

Its director, Anastasia Lozovik, spoke about the work of the Digital Academy DOM.RF at the round table. She noted that the company’s educational projects are of great interest to young professionals with both higher and secondary vocational education, and announced the launch of a free online course “TIM Designer” for schoolchildren. “The goal is to attract future specialists to the industry from school. Each participant will be able to get acquainted with the profession, live one day with a designer from the PIK company, and immerse themselves in the work of a specialist both at the theoretical and practical levels,” said Anastasia Lozovik.

Deputy Head of the MGSU URPDD Maria Yumasheva spoke about trends at the Moscow State Construction University, which is an important supplier of young personnel for the construction industry in the country; more than 95% of graduates work in their specialties.

Maria Yumasheva noted that it is important to interest first- and second-year students in the prospects of the construction industry. Among the initiatives of MGSU, the expert also highlighted the expansion of targeted admissions and the creation of a digital platform so that applicants and construction companies could find each other and enter into an agreement on targeted training.
