CSR proposes to introduce separate regulation for NFTs

The Center for Strategic Research (CSR) proposes to introduce special regulation of non-fungible tokens (NFT), as well as special regulation of persons ensuring the synchronism and consistency of the transfer of tokenized real rights and records in the blockchain, in which the corresponding rights are taken into account. This is stated in the report of the center “Virtual Assets: NFTs and Virtual Items in Computer Games and Metaverses” (available from Vedomosti). But the document does not provide specific proposals for regulating the CSR.

The Bank of Russia did not receive such a report, a representative of the regulator told Vedomosti. But the issues of regulating certain types of NFTs can be resolved within the framework of the law on investment platforms, he added: the Central Bank plans to work on these issues with financial market participants in the near future.
