Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Sergei Krikalev, Roscosmos executive director for manned programs, as his special representative on international cooperation in the field of space. He replaced Roscosmos General Director Yuri Borisov in this position, it follows from decree President on the official portal of legal information.
Sergei Krikalev was born on August 27, 1958 in Leningrad. On November 26, 1988, he made the first flight into space to the Mir station together with Soviet cosmonaut Alexander Volkov and Frenchman Jean-Loup Chrétien. They returned to Earth on April 27, 1989. For this, Mr. Krikalev was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
Subsequently, the astronaut flew into space five more times. From his last flight, Mr. Krikalev returned to Earth on October 11, 2005. In 1992 he was awarded the title of Hero of Russia. He is one of four people awarded the titles Hero of the USSR and Hero of the Russian Federation. Mr. Krikalev became the executive director of Roscosmos for manned space programs in March 2016. Since June 11, 2021, he has been an adviser to the head of Roscosmos.
