US intelligence has no evidence of participation of the Russian special services in the release of Artem Uss
The Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, citing a US intelligence official, reported that the American side, seeking the extradition of the son of the former governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Alexander Uss Artem, has no evidence of the involvement of the Russian special services in the latter’s escape from house arrest in Italy. Artem Uss is accused by the US authorities of violating anti-Russian sanctions and money laundering, for which, under US law, he faces 20 to 30 years in prison.
“So far, we have not seen any signs that the Russian special services helped Artem Uss to leave Italy,” Corriere della Sera quoted a US intelligence community official as saying.
According to the newspaper, during the investigation into the disappearance of the Russian businessman, the Milan prosecutor’s office sent inquiries to Serbia, Slovenia and Germany, including regarding clarification of versions of the escape previously published in the media – car license plates and the possible participation of several people in the event.
According to TASS, the Uss case led to a conflict between the branches of government in Italy. The Ministry of Justice is trying to convict the judges who released Uss from custody to house arrest in negligence. The judges, in turn, recall that they were guided in their actions and decisions by the law, in view of the fact that they did not receive the necessary specific requests from the ministry and the prosecutor’s office.
