Associate Professor of Public Policy at the University of Michigan Javed Ali in conversation with the publication Сonversation stated that if a ground operation were carried out in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army would encounter fierce resistance.

According to him, this will happen because Hamas has nowhere to retreat. Fighters in the fight against the Israeli army will use various traps and improvised explosive devices, as well as an extensive network of underground tunnels.

“Hamas militants have nowhere to retreat in the face of an Israeli attack. At the moment, all borders with Israel are closed; humanitarian aid can only be brought in through the Rafah checkpoint. They have nowhere to go, so I think that Hamas will decide to stand and repel the Israeli invasion,” Ali said.

He clarified that Hamas will be helped by the Israel Defense Forces’ air company, which previously destroyed many buildings and created piles of rubble. The ruins will significantly complicate the movement of Israeli soldiers.
