Negotiations between Russia and the UN on a grain deal began in Geneva. About it reported in the press service of the Permanent Mission of Russia to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva.
The Russian delegation is headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin. Rebecca Greenspan, Secretary General of the Conference of the World Trade and Development Organization (UNCTAD), is participating in the consultations from the UN.
“[Делегации] are starting consultations on the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between Russia and the UN on the promotion of Russian food products and fertilizers to world markets,” the Permanent Mission said in a statement.
The grain deal was concluded on July 22, 2022 by representatives of Turkey and the UN on the one hand and representatives of Russia and Ukraine on the other. Moscow has repeatedly noted that the second part of the deal is not being implemented. Now the grain deal has been extended until July 17.
June 8, Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov informedthat the undermining of the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline by the Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group (DRG) will complicate the extension of the deal. “You know that this topic figured as an integral part of the half of the deal that concerned us. Therefore, let’s put it this way: this is another moment that complicates the situation in terms of continuing the deal,” he said.
