The former commander of the airborne troops, State Duma deputy Vladimir Shamanov, said that all formations and military units of the Airborne Forces are involved in a special military operation in Ukraine. According to the colonel-general, they are conducting “active defense” when interacting with military personnel of other types of troops.
“The fact that the Airborne Forces are 100% in demand in the operation speaks of their highest combat capability, as well as that they have good development prospects in the future,” said TASS Vladimir Shamanov, adding that the personnel of the Airborne Forces are involved in the northern, central and southern operational areas of the special operation.
He also added that a few days ago, the third 119th airborne regiment, formed as part of the Tula 106th airborne division, was sent to the combat zone.
According to Vladimir Shamanov, in this way the General Staff is fulfilling the task of increasing the combat and numerical strength of the Airborne Forces. On the buildup and improvement of the combat strength of the Airborne Forces “as the basis of the rapid reaction forces,” Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reported back in September 2022.
