The US authorities should stop official contacts with Taiwan, said Liu Pengyu, a spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Washington. He also advised US leaders to avoid sending the wrong signals to those who support the island’s independence from mainland China.

As RIA Novosti clarifies, the embassy representative emphasized the importance of observing the one China principle and the provisions of the three joint communiqués between Beijing and Washington.

Commenting on reports of American President Joe Biden’s plans to send a delegation to Taiwan after the elections, Liu Pengyu called on the United States to refrain from official contacts with the region. He stressed that Taiwan is considered by China as an integral part of its territory.

Earlier, the Financial Times, citing sources familiar with the situation, reported that Joe Biden intends to send a bipartisan delegation to Taiwan after elections are held on the island. The delegation, according to plans, should include former deputy head of the US State Department James Steinberg and former national security adviser Stephen Hadley.
