The Chinese authorities warned the manufacturer from supplying equipment to the Russian concern, indicating that it was under sanctions.
Weichai engines were installed on tractors of the K4 generation, which run on natural gas fuel. In particular, they were installed in a modern 5490 LNG tractor, which began to be produced in February 2020. In addition, these engines were installed on methane dump trucks and Nefaz buses.
After the introduction of Western sanctions, KamAZ planned to install Weichai diesel engines on its trucks of the classic K3 generation.
Oleg Afanasyev, a company representative, confirmed that the concern is no longer producing the 5490 LNG-powered truck. However, the company has already prepared a replacement: KamAZ-54901. It will be equipped with a KAMAZ in-line six-cylinder P6 engine, modified to run on gas.
